Stockholm is one of Europe’s fastest growing cities. In the Vision for year 2040 it is stated that Stockholm will become the world’s smartest city. In order to take the city of Stockholm closer to its vision, innovators, startups, entrepreneurs and students have been invited to the international competition Open Stockholm Award. On February 1st the final was held at United Spaces.

Stockholm want to be an open and sustainable city. We are a city open for new ideas, businesses and people

said the City of Stockholm’s Commissioner of Finance, Karin Wanngård, during her opening speech.

To compete, the City of Stockholm had invited everyone to use the open data to create a digital service, such as an app, web service or product. The main goal of the service should be to make Stockholm a better city for both inhabitants and visitors.

12 finalists were chosen to pitch their ideas during the event at United Spaces. The happy winners were the smartphone apps Asthma Watch and Stockholm Garden. You can read more about all the finalists here.
